I started the year as lower right leaning Republic
I started the year as a hardcore, trick down economics believing, capitalist.
I started the year as a stout supporter of Trump.
However at this point in time, I am calling into question what I believe (Although I started of believing mostly liberal social policies, and conservative economic policies). I grew up in a mostly liberal city, with almost all of my friends considering themselves Democrats. And I never had a problem. It was fine, as we all respected each others opinions without examining them. However, it was not till now that I started to actually look at the other side, and see that maybe I thought wrong about certain things. I honestly don’t know at this time, I’m still trying to figure things out. But. That’s okay. That’s what college is for. And I have my entire life ahead of me still to think. Comp 105 and my Soc 200 class have left a profound mark on me, and I don’t know what to think anymore. I’m surprised by how drastically I was effected as a lot of my beliefs have come into question because of them.
I did feel really moved by all that we read in class, and as a result my essay on “The Hope is in the Poor” was created. I felt that Orwell’s 1984 fit so well with everything we had read and discussed in class from just relating the hope, to relating historical figures to Winston and what he experience. I felt that connecting all of that together with how I see political activism as a good thing, and as something that defines what makes up a good citizen, helped to tie the essay together, and make it something genuine, that I felt and believe.
